Education in Australia

   

Australia has a very complete educational system it starts with an mandatory year of kindergarten after that children have to sytudy 6 or 7 years in order to finish their primary education that includes also the secodary years. Tehy stasts school when they have 5 years and they finish when they have 12 or 13 years old.

At this point our educational system dosen´t have any differences with the Australian,, but in the practice there are some very interesting things. In Australia children have special classes if they have some kind of problems with learning or if they fail a subject, unfortunetely in here Mexico if one student have some of these problems it is for sure that he may fail a course and have to repeat a year.

After the secondary school they can study the junior high school that corresponds to our secondary studies. These takes three more years, and when they get over studets can recive a junior high diploma. Also they can take a vocacional course.

If they decide to continue with their education they have to study for another three more years. In these last years they can apply for the university taht they prefer.when they finish they could have their High School diploma.

School Year Calendar

Because of Australia is in the south hemisphere school starts with the year therefore it begins on January and ends on December.

Vacations are similar to ours; both Mexico and Australia have two long periods: spring, summer; but in Australia students don´t have winter vacations.

While in Mexico all the conutry have the same vacations periods Australia dosen´t. Every vacation period depends on the each state.

As in Mexico, Australia also has public and private schools.
Some people thiks that study in a private school could be better than study in a publc one; others don´t share these idea.
Studing in a private or in a public school depends on many things like:

• cost of tutuition
• scholarships opportunities
• quality education
• distance from school

     

Finally we can say that school systems are very similar in this two countries, as a mather of fact students from Australia can come to Mexico and continue their studies, happily students from here can go there and finish their majors or join the Australia´s eductional system at any level.
